Beyond Doubt and Above the Horizon - True Story

Have you ever wondered if you can make a change in this world? Have you ever thought about leaving your mark on this earth? Of touching people’s life?

Guess what.. yes you can.. Monir, Mohammad and Hani, 3 young people who already did it!

let’s get into the story. Last week I had the chance to meet two guys who amazed me and made me realize there is no limitation to our dreams. Mohammad Azzam and Monir Abu Hilal. Young people from Jordanian universities with bigger dreams than you can imagine. Those two young men along with another teammate who unfortunately I hadn’t had the chance to meet; Hani AbuHuwaij started an evolution that will change the whole meaning about technology for disabled people.

It all started in Microsoft's Worldwide Imagine Cup Competition. That’s when “Project Horizon” was born by those wonderful three young guys who are named now “Team OaSys”.

“Project Horizon” helps people who suffer from a disability that prevents them from using their hands and limbs to easily interact with computers. It’s a user friendly mouse-like device that allows them to easily control and interact with their computer, and engage in different activities from the basic functions of viewing pictures and websites to advanced ones like writing their own programs and applications.

A prototype device has been tested on a girl with Quadriplegia, she was able to draw a picture on her computer for the first time in 17 years just by the movement of her head!! Team OaSys was astonished by such wonderful results and now even if they don’t win in this competition they will continue building this device and eventually “Project Horizon” will see the light and will help many people all over the globe!

We always hear the words “Anyone can do anything he sets his mind to it” but we always doubt this saying!
“Easier said than done” is the first thought that comes into your mind. Sadly it’s true, even more sadly, this thought runs in the majority of the young people’s minds in such times.

However, there are those few who thinks the sky is not the limit… there is no limit! I can do it, I will do it, and I will succeed eventually! No matter how many times I fail, I can and I will reach my goal.

After the above has been said, do you still believe that you can do nothing? Each and everyone in this world has arrived to earth with the capability of achieving greatness! No matter how young, how smart, how simple your idea is, give it wings and let it sour up in the skies of success! Give it fuel, give it persistence, and watch it grow into a wonderful chance of making a difference. You tried and failed? Try again… come up with a new idea, give it the chance. But never ever stop, and most importantly, never doubt your capabilities. You are your own motivator! You are your biggest fan! So become the change you want to see in this world.

Team OaSys and Project Horizon will be representing Jordan (The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan) for the second year in the worldwide finals which will be held this year in New York if they win in the local competition. May God bless them.

  1. It's such a wonderful story, wish them all the luck.
I totally agree with you Layan, everyone must take the chance to grow up his/her idea even if it's very simple; since all the inventions we're using nowadays started from a simple idea by normal but ambitious people.
